What is Adult Education?
The Adult Education Program is to inspire and enable all adults, especially those from disadvantaged circumstances, to realize their full potential as productive, responsible and caring citizens. Adults enroll to seek employment, advance on the job, pursue a college education, and/or for personal enrichment. All classes and instructional materials used in the classroom are also available free of charge.
As an Adult Education student, you can:
• Work at your own pace
• Experience one-to-one instruction from a qualified Instructor
• Receive confidential educational counseling and assistance
Adult Basic Education (ABE)
ABE is a program that provides instruction for adults whose ability to compute, speak, read, or write the English language only at or below the ninth grade level substantially impairs their ability to find or retain employment commensurate with their real ability. The instruction is designed to help adults by:
• Increasing their independence.
• Increasing opportunities for more productive and profitable employment.
• Making them better able to meet adult responsibilities.
Adult Secondary Education (ASE)
The Navarro College Adult Education program provides academic preparation for GED testing to individuals. Courses included curriculum in reading, writing, math, science, and social studies. Spanish is available at specific locations. Flexible class hours and locations make this program accessible to most individuals' busy schedules.
English as a Second Language (ESL)
ESL is a program for those limited English proficient students who have a focus on improving English communication skills such as speaking, reading, writing, and listening. ESL classes are free of charge for out-of-school adults. Classes are open-entry, open-exit. These classes are made to help improve fluency and pronunciation, also to expand their vocabulary.
