Welcome to the Education Department at Navarro College. In 2006, the U.S. Department of Education Office of Postsecondary Education reported teaching shortages in Texas in the following areas: Bilingual Education, English as a Second Language, Foreign Language (Languages other than English), Mathematics, Science, Special Education, and Technology Applications. To meet the growing demand for educators, Navarro College offers an Associate of Arts Teaching Degree 2-year degree which will lead to initial Texas teacher certification at a four-year university. There are three routes for a pre-service teacher.
Route I - Early Childhood-4th grade (except Early Childhood Specialization), 4th-8th grade, and Early Childhood-12th grade with certification in Special Education
Route II - 8th-12th grade and Early Childhood-12th grade in Music, Physical Education, Art, Health, Theatre, Technology Applications, and Languages other than English
Route III - Early Childhood -4th grade Specialization
Route I is designed for teachers who want to teach EC-4th grade. Middle school teachers and All-level Special Education teachers are in Route I. Route II is for teachers who are All-level or Secondary. Route III is primarily for teachers interested in EC-2nd grade.
